  • DSI Excellence Program for PhDs – Scholarships available

    From now until 15.01.2024, interested parties can apply for the upcoming start of the DSI Excellence Program in September 2024. The program prepares doctoral students from all disciplines for an environment in which interdisciplinary collaboration on digitalization topics is a top priority.

  • General Meeting: The DSI now has more than 1100 members

    The Digital Society Initiative (DSI) of the University of Zurich (UZH) held its annual general meeting on November 2. Participants were offered a panel discussion entitled «The media world is changing rapidly: what does this mean for scientists?».

  • DIZH Structure Call

    DIZH launches the Structure Call. Maximum duration of five years and funding of up to CHF 2 million. Submissions are possible until 01.04.2024.

  • Majority of Swiss want a digital twin

    Almost two-thirds of the Swiss population would like to have a digital twin. The digital image of a human body is likely to have a major impact on healthcare in the future and will become an issue in diagnosis and therapy, but also in prevention. The Digital Society Initiative (DSI), together with GFS Bern, conducted a representative survey on the topic in Switzerland.

    On July 11 and 12, the official launch of the pilot project «ZuriACT: Zurich Accessible CiTy» took place at the premises of the DSI. This project promotes barrier-free and inclusive mobility in District 1 of the city of Zurich.

    Navigating the dynamic landscape of the digital economy can be challenging due to uncoordinated government regulations and the lack of international best practices. Worse, there is currently no international monitoring effort for laws and regulations affecting the digital economy. The Digital Policy Alert (DPA) aims to fill the evidence gap in digital economy policies by offering publicly accessible, transparent, and timely documentation of policy and enforcement developments.

    The statistics on the information society allow the Swiss Federal Statistical Office to show the developments in digitalization in Switzerland. Based on the latest data, the indicators have now been updated.

  • Dr. Ning Wang invited to WEF's «Summer Davos»

    DSI Researcher Dr. Ning Wang has been appointed a member of the Global Future Council on the Future of Technology Policy by the World Economic Forum (WEF) during 2023-2024. She will attend this year's meeting of the new champions in China.

  • Jobs at Yale: Postdoctoral and Postgraduate Positions

    The Center for Digital Ethics at Yale University, directed by Prof. Luciano Floridi, is recruiting full-time, postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers, from a variety of backgrounds, to join this multidisciplinary center newly established at Yale, to investigate the Governance, Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (GELSI) of digital technologies.

  • DIZH Founder Call

    With this call type, the innovation program supports market-, society- or culture-related entrepreneurial projects in the context of digital transformation. The Founder Call is intended to contribute to the creation of spin-offs and start-ups in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors by employees and students of the partner universities.

  • «Digital Skills»: Community of Practice Meeting

    The new study program «Digital Skills» of the DSI prepares students of all faculties of the UZH for the digital transformation. This minor with a scope of 30 ECTS at Master's level is built up and continuously developed together with a Community of Practice (CoP). On March 17, 2023, over 40 people attended the meeting of this CoP.

  • Start of the Apéro Philo series

    The DSI Community Ethics invites all interested parties to the first session of the Apéro Philo series on May 11, 2023. The event focuses on the topic «Digital Wellbeing: Conceptualization, Empirical Results, Challenges».

  • Journalists attend DSI workshop on «Algorithms and AI»

    In March 2023, the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) organized a workshop on «Algorithms and AI» for journalists specialized in digital topics. A total of 18 media professionals accepted the invitation and engaged in a lively exchange with research experts.

  • Games in Context: Lectures & workshops around the digital game culture

    The DSI Community Gaming, together with the Zentralbibliothek Zürich (ZB) and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), is organizing the public event series «Games in Context» from March to December 2023. The increasing influence of digital games on our society will be made visible and discussed.

    The National Research Programme «Big Data» (NRP 75) of the Swiss National Science Foundation investigated the opportunities and the challenges. On March 2, 2023, the final report was presented at a media conference.

    The University of Zurich (UZH) invites applications for a DIZH professorship in Digital Cultures and Arts. The position should be filled by February 1, 2024. The professorship will be established as a joint assistant professorship between the UZH and Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). After six years and upon a successful evaluation, the professorship is to be made permanent.

    The University of Zurich (UZH) is strengthening research and teaching on digital transformation. It is creating seven new professorships that will work on important digital topics such as cybersecurity, urban analytics and the sociology of digitalization.
