Prof. Dr. Michael Coors
Michael Coors is Associate Professor of Theological Ethics and Head of the Institute for Social Ethics at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Zurich. He received his doctorate in systematic theology from the University of Greifswald and habilitated with a thesis on the anthropology and ethics of ageing. After nine years as theological advisor at the Centre for Health Ethics in Hanover, he was appointed as professor at the University of Zurich in the autumn semester of 2019.
His research focuses on medical ethics and political ethics, as well as on fundamental questions of theological and applied ethics. In medical ethics, he researches ethical questions at the end of life, ageing and dementia, questions of reproductive medicine and justice in health care. He is particularly interested in the field of ethics and spirituality. In the field of political ethics and the foundations of theological ethics, he addresses, among other topics, questions of the relationship between morality and power, the moral significance of vulnerability and bodily integrity, and the relationship between Christian love ethics and secular care ethics.
In addition to his work as director of the Digital Society Initiative, Michael Coors serves on the board of the Centre for Gerontology at the University of Zurich, leads the ethics committee of the Faculty of Theology and is currently director of the UZH Ethics Centre. He is also a member of the board of Societas Ethica, the European research society for ethics.
