On this page we will continuously publish frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding the application, your study path and content, as well as general questions in the context of the DSI Minor Digital Skills.

Before Studying: Questions regarding your application

Question:

Can I apply when not already studying at the UZH?

Answer:

No. Starting in Fall Semester 2025 (Fall 25) only students already registered at UZH can apply for the DSI Minor Digital Skills. The application is only open to students who are currently completing their bachelor’s degree at UZH (by the end of the Spring Semester 2025) and intend to pursue their master’s degree at UZH (starting Fall Semester 2025). It's also available to current master students at UZH who plan to change their Master Minor (Fall Semester 2025).
 

Question:

Where can I apply?

Answer:

You have to apply via Selectus and upload all required documents (essay, CV, Bachelor diploma or Transcript of Records). The Link for Application Tool Selectus will be published here in January 2025.
On the starting page of Selectus you choose Sprache «Englisch» and Position «Application DSI Minor Digital Skills (Semester)» and then go through all steps,  fill in all information required and upload the documents.

Question:

I missed the application deadline, what options do I have now?

Answer:

If you missed the application deadline you can still visit and complete courses from the DSI Minor Digital Skills. Please inform yourself here about the curriculum. After you completed the courses you can apply for the DSI Minor Digital Skills during the next possible application process. If you are accepted, the successfully completed courses can be credited.If the following semester will be your last semester in the Master's program, please contact us: digitalskills@dsi.uzh.ch

 

While Studying: Questions regarding the study path and content

Question:

Which courses do I have to take in the first semester?

Answer:

In the first semester (Fall Semester 25/ Fall 2025), students of the DSI Minor Digital Skills must attend the compulsory courses «Teamwork on Digital Transformation Challenges I» (P / 3 ECTS), «Digital Transformation – a Scientific Overview» (P / 3 ECTS), and «Intermediate Python Programming» (P / 3 ECTS). To make planning easier for students, all courses will take place monday (#minormonday) allowing you to freely plan the rest of your week.

If you want to obtain more ECTS in the first semester, you can freely choose from a wide range of different courses offered within the DSI Minor Digital Skills (see Course Catalogue for current offer).

 

Further questions

Question:

Do I need proof of C1 level English (in the sense of a certificate) for the application? Is the Federal Matura sufficient proof?

Answer:

The language of instruction is English. We require students to have at least C1 level language skills and consider the Federal Matura to be sufficient proof of this level. You do not need to submit a certificate.

 

Question:

Can I study the DSI Minor Digital Skills when not having prior knowledge in (Python) Programming?

Answer:

Yes. You will be introduced to Programming through the elective course «Programming Bootcamp» and the compulsory course «Intermediate Python Programming» in your first semester.



Question:

Do I need to enroll in the compulsory module «Intermediate Python Programming», if I already have Python competencies.

Answer:

If you are already experienced in Python and you can demonstrate your skills through certificates or successfully completed courses at UZH, you can substitute the module with advanced modules from the module group «Programming, Machine Learning & AI».
