Third DSI Strategy Lab: Publication of position paper

The third DSI Strategy Lab focussed on the question «AI in education, research and innovation – what do we lose, what do we gain?». The objectives and recommendations were summarised in a position paper, which has now been published.

Due to the proliferation of ChatGPT, the capabilities of (generative) artificial intelligence (AI) have recently become the focus of public debate. The Strategy Lab «AI in education, research and innovation – what do we lose, what do we gain?» takes these public discussions as an opportunity to reflect in depth on the opportunities and risks of AI in a context that is significant for universities.

In August 2023, around 20 experts from various fields developed scenarios and draft recommendations on the topic of the Strategy Lab in a retreat. This work served as the basis for the next steps.

The objectives and recommendations of the third DSI Strategy Lab were summarised in a position paper during the course of the year. They are divided into three groups and relate to the areas of «learners», «teachers» and «researchers». For each group of recommendations, the respective addressees from the fields of education policy, administration, universities and other possible stakeholders are named. Boxes contain further information.

The final editing of the position paper was carried out by Abraham Bernstein, Markus Christen and Judit Martinez Moreno.
