Applicants for a scholarship are future doctoral students of the UZH, or doctoral students already enrolled at the UZH who are still in the early stages of their dissertation.
Applicants for the Excellence Program must meet the following admission criteria:
a. The applicants are future doctoral students of the UZH, or doctoral students already enrolled at the UZH (application date January 15, 2025) no later than the 2nd doctoral year).
b. Applicants must hold an MSc or MA degree with an excellent or very good performance record.
c. Applicants must demonstrate continuous engagement with and relevance to academic research. This means, for example, no long-term activities outside academia.
d. Applicants must have a good command of English.
e. Applicants must submit all required application documents on time (see application procedure).
The scholarship can correspond to a full-time or part-time position; the maximum scholarship amount corresponds to the existing rates according to the SNSF (PDF, 236 KB)Swiss National Science Foundation (for doctoral remuneration see page 5 of the document). Additional employment that raises the total remuneration above the SNSF level is possible (subject to the UZH salary regulations for doctoral students).

Application deadline: Please apply for admission to the Excellence Program by 23:59 on January 15, 2025.
Decision on admission to the assessment: Latest by the beginning of March 2025, we will inform you whether you are invited to the assessment on March 13 or 14, 2025. You will let us know within a specified period whether you are still interested in participating in the Excellence Program.
Assessment dates for scholarship applicants: The assessment dates will take place on March 13 or 14, 2025. The assessments will take place at the University of Zurich, Digital Society Initiative (DSI). You will let us know within a pre-determined period of time if you are still interested in participating in the Excellence Program.
Decision on admission to the scholarship: You will be notified by the beginning of April 2025 if you are eligible for a DSI scholarship.
Final acceptance/rejection for the program: The final selection of all participants in the Excellence Program with/without scholarship will be made by the beginning of July 2025 at the latest.
