Welcome, Eva and Ivo

We are delighted to welcome Eva Bittner and Ivo F. Sbalzarini as new DSI Professors, two researchers who approach artificial intelligence from different directions.

Autor: DSI Communication

Two DSI Professors are bringing their expertise to the University of Zurich's (UZH) competence center for digital transformation.

Eva Bittner has been Professor of Information Systems at UZH since February 2026. She studies how AI systems can support human creativity and problem-solving in collaboration – and what social, cognitive and ethical implications follow. She previously researched and taught at the University of Hamburg.

Ivo F. Sbalzarini is Professor of Scientific Machine Learning at the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Machine Learning (DM3L) at UZH. After his doctorate and assistant professorship at ETH Zurich, he held positions in Dresden including Professor at TU Dresden, research group leader at the Max Planck Institute and, from 2021 to 2025, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science.

The DSI warmly welcomes Eva and Ivo.

DSI Professors conduct research on the causes, consequences and future scenarios of the digital transformation of society and science. Here you can find an overview of all DSI Professors.
