Navigation apps are often of little use to people with limited mobility because they lack information on accessibility. The ZuriACT project worked on solutions. The project data has now been published on Open Data Zurich.
Navigation apps do not provide the necessary information for the mobility and navigation of people with reduced mobility or disabilities. The «ZuriACT» project, a collaboration between the University of Zurich (UZH) and the City of Zurich, aimed to tackle this problem and supplement the data on accessibility with a case study in Zurich's District 1 (Kreis 1).
ZuriACT was a citizen science project. This means that citizens were also involved in the project - including in the data collection. Thanks to the ZuriACT participants, over 9100 accessibility features were recorded in Zurich's «Kreis 1». For example, existing and missing kerb ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian traffic lights, missing sidewalks or problems with accessibility. This data has now been published on Open Data Zürich. A follow-up project is already in the starting blocks.
