Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC): Call for national collaboration projects

The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) will become a national research infrastructure with the mission to support the access and development of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) in research, industry and the public sector in Switzerland. In this context, the SDSC is launching a national call for collaboration projects to begin in 2025.

The call is also open for UZH researchers who are interested in applying for projects to be conducted in collaboration with SDSC which will provide expertise and services (but no additional funding).

The call is aimed at potential collaborative projects in all disciplines, but - depending on the specific call – focuses on environmental, climate and energy sciences as well as health sciences, biomedicine and the digital transformation of the public sector. Three different calls were announced:

  • Call for Collaborative Research Data Science Projects: For collaborative projects in this call, the SDSC can contribute in-kind resources and expertise of the SDSC in data science, machine learning and AI. SDSC is looking for projects in the field of environment, climate and energy sciences, health and biomedical sciences, and data science for large-scale infrastructures. There is also a general track for projects in other research fields.
  • Call for End-User Innovation Projects: This call aims to ensure that innovations developed in a research context reach their full potential in end-user contexts (e.g. public administration or industrial partners).
  • Call for Collaborative Open Research Data (ORD) Infrastructure Projects: This call invites projects of up to two years to develop software and data infrastructure contributing to a collaborative open research data ecosystem in Switzerland. The SDSC will contribute in-kind expertise in ORD, research data management, software engineering, knowledge modeling, semantic technologies, and deployment and optimization of ML system implementation, including LLMs.

The deadline for the submission of pre-proposals for all calls is 15 July 2024. The positively evaluated pre-proposals must be prepared and submitted as a comprehensive application by 30 September or 30 October 2024 (depending on the specific call).
