Kenneth Paterson: Cryptography in the Wild

Kenneth Paterson, Professor at the Insitute for Information Security at ETH Zurich, will discuss a research theme that has emerged in the last few years, namely the analysis of deployed cryptographic systems. In this line of work, we either try to find vulnerabilities in the system (and disclose them to the affected vendors) or prove the security of the cryptographic core of the system. He will reflect on how they conduct this kind of research, why they do it, and what we can learn from it about how developers use (and abuse) cryptography.
